Edge UPS systems protect the gear that keeps a network running outside the main server room: switches and routers in an IDF or network closet, VoIP and security-camera PoE switches, point-of-sale systems, and small wall-mount or 2-post racks at branch sites. Most edge loads fall between about 500VA and 1,500VA, in a compact tower or a 1U–2U rack unit.
