Preventive Maintenance

UPS preventive maintenance is scheduled inspection and testing that finds problems before a power outage does. GreenlightUPS technicians provide preventive maintenance nationwide for single-phase and three-phase UPS systems at facilities that cannot go down.

What is included in a UPS preventive maintenance visit?

Every GreenlightUPS preventive maintenance visit follows a full standard checklist and covers the system end to end, including:

  • Visual inspection of the UPS, battery cabinets, cabling, and connections for heat damage, corrosion, swelling, or leaks
  • Environmental check of room temperature and ventilation at the UPS and batteries
  • Event and alarm log review to find transfers, faults, and overloads since the last visit
  • Electrical readings of input and output voltage, current, frequency, and load percentage
  • Battery testing matched to your system and your needs
  • Cleaning of air filters and vents, and checks of fan operation
  • Firmware and configuration review, including network management card settings and alarm notifications
  • Written report with findings and recommended action, available on request, usually as a PDF

Every step, including any time the UPS spends on bypass, is done by the book and planned around your site's limitations and circumstances.

How often should a UPS be maintained?

Many facilities schedule UPS preventive maintenance once or twice a year. Critical sites such as data centers and hospitals often choose quarterly or semi-annual visits, with batteries checked more often. The right interval depends on UPS size, battery type, room temperature, and how critical the load is.

GreenlightUPS service contracts include annual or semi-annual preventive maintenance visits.

Why is preventive maintenance important for UPS batteries?

Valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries are the most common UPS battery type, and they lose capacity gradually. A battery can look normal and still fail to deliver runtime under load. Regular testing finds weak batteries before an outage exposes them. See our UPS battery replacement guide for details.

Does GreenlightUPS offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. GreenlightUPS offers tiered service contracts with preventive maintenance visits once or twice a year. Depending on the tier, a contract can include:

  • Full preventive maintenance service
  • Battery change-outs
  • Parts and labor
  • Priority response

Every contract is quoted for your site. Call 954-366-3070 to discuss the right tier.
