APC Symmetra LX Is Discontinued: Keep It Running or Replace It?
Guide · GreenlightUPS
Short answer
Schneider Electric has discontinued the APC Symmetra LX, and its official replacement is the lithium-ion Smart-UPS Modular Ultra. That doesn't mean your LX has to come out. Discontinued means you can't buy a new one from APC; after-sales service and parts continue, and the batteries, power modules and intelligence modules that wear out are still available. For most sites, the right move is to keep a healthy LX running on fresh batteries and good modules

How to Size a UPS: VA, Watts, Runtime
The short answer
To size a UPS, add up the real power (watts) of every device it will protect, add 20 to 25 percent headroom, and choose a UPS whose watt rating, not just its VA rating, exceeds that total. Then confirm the UPS has enough battery runtime, the right input voltage and plug, and the right form factor for your space.
This guide walks through each step and ends with a worked example.
What is the difference between VA and watts?
UPS systems are rated two ways:

When to Replace UPS Batteries
The short answer
Most UPS batteries should be replaced every 3 to 5 years, or sooner if the UPS fails a self-test, shows a replace-battery alarm, or delivers noticeably less runtime than expected. Batteries are the most common cause of UPS failure, so replacing them on schedule is the single most effective way to keep a UPS ready for an outage.
This guide covers battery lifespan, warning signs, testing, hot-swap replacement, and disposal.

Refurbished vs New UPS: Which to Buy?
The short answer

Both can protect critical equipment well. The right choice depends on your budget, warranty requirements, the age of the model, and how critical the load is.
GreenlightUPS sells both new and refurbished UPS systems, so this guide is not an argument for one over the other. It explains the diffe

Symmetra PX Battery Replacement: A Practical Guide
The APC Symmetra PX keeps its batteries in slide-in battery units. If you run a Symmetra PX 20, 40 or 80, those units are SYBTU1-PLP. APC groups four of them into one SYBT4 battery string. The same battery hardware is used in the Smart-UPS VT and Galaxy 3500. This guide covers the rule that matters most when you replace them.
How the battery units are arranged
Each battery shelf holds four units in columns A, B, C and D. APC treats them as two pairs: A+B and C+D.
The matched-pairs rule

Online vs Line-Interactive UPS: Which Do You Need?
The short answer
Line-interactive: handles everyday sags and surges efficiently and costs less. Best for network closets, workstations and small servers.
Online (double-conversion): rebuilds the power from scratch, so connected equipment never sees a transfer. The standard for servers, medical and industrial loads.
Choosing between an online (double-conversion) and a line-interactive UPS comes down to how clean your power needs to be, how sensitive your equipment is, and your budget.
How a l
